The Elementary Program fosters a lifelong love of learning in our students. Opportunities are provided to nurture and challenge all students to reach their full potential. Differentiated instruction combines the best of many methods and instructional strategies to address the different learning styles as well as the gifts and talents of our students. Higher-level and critical thinking skills, technology, writing, and character development are integrated into the student’s learning experiences. Classroom instruction is enhanced through hands-on activities, cooperative learning, exploration and discovery, and activities that promote problem-solving and creativity.
As you walk through the classrooms, students are preparing for First Communion, researching and presenting notable Catholic social justice heroes, finding the area and perimeter, or learning Texas history events. Through exploration, discovery, and reflection, Our Lady of Guadalupe encourages academic excellence, personal development, and spiritual formation.
Parents partner with teachers to help students develop organizational skills and independence in school work so that each child realizes their God-given potential. At every grade level, teachers surround students with kindness, grace, encouragement, and support in the core subjects of Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Religion. The English/Language Arts program promotes effective communication, both orally and in writing, to intentionally use language for a variety of purposes, and critically read and apply texts. Mathematic instruction emphasizes problem solving, manipulatives, and modeling. Social Studies and Science instruction guides students in becoming curious and engaged learners. Daily instruction and hands-on activities provide the opportunity for students to ask questions, make mistakes, and gain confidence.
Students are encouraged to process knowledge and understanding not only by facts and truths but also by using values and beliefs. Ancillary classes, Spanish, Art, Music, Computer, and Physical Education, with weekly visits to the library, enrich the whole student experience where critical thinking skills are taught and emphasized as students build a strong foundation for future learning.
