Our Lady of Guadalupe School is a PreK3-8th grade Catholic school located in the Second Ward of Houston, just east of Downtown where it has served the community for over 109 years. Because of our close proximity to the central hub of Downtown, we serve students who come from over 60 different zip codes in and around the Houston area. Our small classes and the outstanding curriculum continue to draw people to the Guadalupe family. The school is committed to the development of the whole person; challenging the growth of mind, body, and spirit. It still remains our mission to provide a strong, solid, Catholic education to those who wish for one.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School first opened its doors to 50 pupils on September 8, 1912. A new school building was erected in 1948, which still houses the school today. Our school celebrated its 100th year anniversary in 2012, making us the oldest Catholic elementary school in Houston.
OLGCS is currently located in the East End of Downtown Houston. The school is in a sprawling neighborhood that is rich in history and in culture. Not only is the area/district home to the Harrisburg community, an early Texas trading post that was once considered for the initial development of Houston by the Allen brothers, but it is also home to two of Houston’s oldest Hispanic neighborhoods: Magnolia Park and Second Ward. What was known as East End and Second Ward is now known as “EaDo.” The surrounding area is currently booming with luxury homes and apartments as well as new restaurants and activities.
